Sounds of Silence - Thankful Thursday

One of the schools I work at, signed a few of us teachers to a Mindfulness Based Stress Relief (MBSR) course. What a great idea! Taking care of your teachers!!!

I've been going doing this course now for the past 7 Saturdays. But this, was one of the most resilient meetings for me.

Let me just describe the location first...every week I make the trek towards the teacher's home. After you park your car, you take a 3 minute walk on a quiet neighborhood street. When you finally reach this Key West style home, you take a few seconds to admire it. On the side of the house, there is a narrow walkway leading you to the back of her house and her beautiful pool deck surrounded by a lush, gorgeous, and green garden. If you listen...you could hear the sounds of the birds chirping. Every so often, you'd see a parrot or a blue jay, or a robin. It really was amazing! And after observing nature, you walk into her peaceful and serene classroom. Here we usually talked and described our experiences with feelings, pains, thoughts, and emotions.

But this saturday was different, she asked us to be silent. She invited all of us in the room, to be silent, to practice not speaking, to avoid talking.

It was crazy! This lady thought I'd be silent for 6 hours? How in the world was I going to accomplish this in a group of 20 people? But for the most part, we did it. I did it. We did some yoga, some walking meditation, some feeling exercises...as for me, the best part, was eating in silence.

At lunch, I chose to sit by myself. In a little corner of the deck where the large palm trees gave shade to my area. I began eating what seemed to be the most delicious PB&J sandwich I've ever had. I smelled the air around me and then I put my nose close to my bread, my sandwich. I gave it a good whiff and then I took a bite of it. And I slowly chewed it and I chewed and I chewed. Then I paused and looked at it and back up at the bamboo and palm trees, the bushes, the beautiful roses and bouganvilias. And it sounds so crazy and weird but really...it was surreal.

Aaahhhhh but it was just amazing. Try it...try to be silent. Just smile, nod, and shrug to let others know you will not be talking.

But even more important, try the slow eating...savor your food, your meal. Not just your breakfast, your lunch, or your dinner. Every food or drink that touches your lips and your mouth. Savor everything you do. Everything you take in. From what you see, what you smell, what you do, what you feel, and you will find what you love in life. You will find about those little things that are so good and that you should be thankful for.

What type of meditation have you tried?

Thankful Thursdays and Coffee Talk!

HELLO THURSDAY!!!

I cannot believe its finally Thursday! This week has gone by so fast, while at the same time, things appear to be moving sooooo slow!
For many years I had always had something to do once I got home, whether it was bringing work home, going to class, or doing homework. I feel that this is the first year where I can actually relax. That I don't feel I'm behind on something! It's the best and weirdest feeling in the world!
I guess I'm used to being busy...thing is, I need to use that pent up energy to go to the gym. lol....that hasn't happened like I want it to, but IT'S HAPPENING!!!
I'm so thankful that my perspective on life has made life easier and that little light shines down on me!

So now...this is what I do when I get home:

So now that you've wished you were at the beach...chill out and relax. Grab a cup of coffee or make your favorite iced tea to read Natalie Blaire's Weekly Coffee Talkx4

1. You're at Target or Walmart, what's the first department you hit?
Woooo...Target...that's my drug! I'd say I hit the $1 section! I'm a sucker for it! I end up looking for fun little trinkets I can give students as prizes. I took hubby with me on my last visit and he had a blast and found fake moustache stickers in that area. I think if I went to Starbucks first I'd probably go a little haywire with all of the caffeine and just spend!!

2. What are 3 items you always have stocked in your home, fridge or pantry?
I guess toilet paper, Weight Control Oatmeal, and deodorant?  I must wipe my booty. I must have my breakfast that will keep my belly full all morning..it's embarrassing when my tummy is hungry when I'm working with the students!

3. Do you prefer shopping alone or with others? Why?
I like grocery shopping alone. I like taking my time and looking at prices and what not. Even when I go with friends to shop for clothes, I feel rushed, then again, I love when they can give me an honest opinion about a not-so-swanky dress, ha!

4. What's the biggest splurge you've ever made?
Splurge? Maybe spending like crazy amount of money for some crazy Zagat rated restaurant.

5. What's the best deal you've ever snagged?
Best deal? hmmmm...I'd have to agree with Natalie, e.l.f. make up had some awesome deal where I got tons of make up for $1.

Thankful Thursday: Turn your luck around!

Hello lovelies! Sorry about my mini absence, oh yeah, and I've also been a bad bloggy friend :(
The last few days have been quite busy and interesting. I've even considered diagnosing myself with ADHD....I trip over myself, I fall, I forget, and I lose things. So after a couple of days of sulking and considering seeing a doc, I've come to the conclusion that I will just have to find different strategies to overcome feeling lost and confused everyday, ha!

On the bright side, I have started my Inspire Me Healthy steps to my goal! I've been going to the gym more frequently this week and I hope to continue doing it!

I've had some amazing moments that I am thankful for in the past week:

*  Having an amazing hubby to come home to.
*  My parents, because they have creative solutions to stay positive.
*  "It's not lost, just temporarily not where it should be."
*  The sound of rain.
*  The sun's rays peeking through the morning clouds.
*  Friends that check up on you just because.
*  Colleagues that are willing to help you in the blink of an eye.
*  My Nonna and Mama, because although they are not physically with me, they guide me daily.
*  My LUCK, because I know it has turned around ;)

Love you all lovelies! Hope your Thursday is amazing!

Thankful Thursday: Fireworks edition!

**Amazing friends that always make it a point to get together. Even if it is to watch a handful of hot men take their clothes off (what a sacrifice!).

I was successful at decorating my nephews' pirate ships for their birthdays!
Not a sample of my decor...but I helped with the tattoos!
