BH's Pink Gala in Orlando

I couldn't believe it! Our dear friend Barby organized this amazing meet and greet and BH (BlockHead) meet-up in Orlando the day following the concert. And guess what...the New Kids went too!!! Well, at least, my friends and I would like to think we got our "Ultimate Photos" taken with them. Bottom line, we had a blast and well we raised over $1,100 for our Komen team!!! Go us!

Fighting the good fight x3!

October  15, 2011 will mark my 3rd year in my efforts to fundraise and support the Miami Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I want to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Every year I dedicate my efforts to my mom, Ana Maria, who is also a breast cancer survivor. It was a shock to my family when we were told of the news. Approximately 80% of breast cancers occur in women 50 years and older, my mom was 47. My mom toughed out through surgeries, numerous treatments, and even hair loss. Her strentgh and courage is what made our family see it through.
The chances that you know someone who has been affect by breast cancers are high: 1 in 8 women! That means either a spouse, a friend, a co-worker, a student at school, a neighbor has either had breast cancer or has been affected by this disease.
The team I have been running with came together in memory of Betty Wood. She lost her battle with breast cancer 11 years ago. Betty is Danny Wood's mother. Danny is a member of NKOTB and dedicated Susan G. Komen supporter who has active in the fight against breast cancer for several years.

October 16, 2010 will mark my second year in my efforts to fundraise and support the Miami Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I want to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

I am dedicating my efforts to my mom, Ana Maria, who is a breast cancer survivor. With no history of breast cancer in my family, we were in shock as she was diagnosed at a younger age than most women are. My mother, a strong-willed woman, never let us see her cry or suffer as she struggled through surgeries and numerous treatments. Her strength and courage is what made our family see it through.

The team I am running with has come together in memory of Betty Wood. Betty lost her battle with breast cancer 11 years ago. Betty is Danny Wood's mother, a member of NKOTB and a dedicated Susan G. Komen supporter who has been fighting breast cancer for several years. Let Betty's passing and that of many others, not be in vain.

Our goal is to fight against breast cancer, to remember the lives loved and lost, and to honor those survivors that continue to give us hope. They remind us as always to "Hang Tough!"

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!!!

If you have been following my moves, you may have taken notice that I've been actively supporting Komen for the Cure over the last months. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and thanks to charities like Susan G. Komen (who help in research and early detection efforts), she is now cancer free.

Why now? It only took a little push (or a flick) from someone I am proud to fight alongside with. His name? Danny Wood. I also had an excellent "team committee" (THANK YOU Libby and Emily!) In October my team, Miami Remembers Betty, raced and raised close to $13,000 for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure against breast cancer. A million THANK YOUs to our supporters!!!!

Why Danny Wood? He has been a relentless Komen supporter who has helped raise over $500,000 towards breast cancer research and awareness. He has released an album with all proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure. So I encourage you to not only donate to a great cause, but you will be rewarded with some great music in return!!

My NKOTB Adventures

"I Remember When...": Lima, Peru, 1989, I was 9 years old and like every afternoon, you'd find me listening to music or watching music videos. And there it came, "The Right Stuff" popped on the tube and I was immediately drawn to the 5 hot guys from Boston. I was only 9, but I was definitely into the boys then :). I still wanted to see more and lucky for me "Please Don't Go Girl" was next. Now, I knew who to keep my eyes on...it was Joey Joe. Yes, I was into the blue eyed boy. I practiced and beefed up my English skills by writing down the lyrics to the songs since these were not included with the cassette tapes. This would help me considering 1 1/2 years later, I'd be moving to the states. But by the time I moved in 1991, their flame was dwindling and I was the only fan on the block. Literally.
Fast forward to 2008. Miami, FL, I heard the rumors, I logged on to the net. I could not believe my eyes! NKOTB will be reunited again! This time, I had control over my experience, or at least I thought. Although I could not find a soul to go with me to NYC, I made sure to be present for the Ft. Lauderdale show that my hubby happily accompanied me to. It was amazing. I cried, I laughed, and I waved my hands in the air like just don't care! Little did I know then that facetime was a possibility.
March 2009. This is when MY year of the Block really started. My first meet and greet and first road trip began in Ft. Myers. Oh, little did I know, more was to come and my facetime opportunities would only get better! And so it is...Ft. Myers, FL; Orlando, FL; Memphis, TN; Wichita, KS; Dallas, TX; and Houston, TX. My last meet and greet of the year was also the last concert of the tour and therefore it was amazing.
My facetime experiences? Well, it started in Ft. Myers, where a certain someone claims to remembered me from then. That rolled over to a quaint little party in Miami Beach that happened before the cruise. I got to wish Danny boy Happy Birthday in person and all thanks to some liquid courage. That night I got my pics taken with all, except for Jon (I'll get you soon!). Joey took our pic twice, Donnie taking several pics with us and even stole some kisses from me! Jordan, well, I promise not to call you out on your pic skills anymore. And Danny, such an awesome host. He took care of my friend and I the entire night! Encouraging us to stick around his table. This was also the night were my Mac dreams began to swerve towards Wood issues, all thanks to the power of youtube.com! These first encounters led to us bumping and meeting them in other states. So much so, that Danny even gave shout outs from stage to his 305 girls.

And well, Houston, TX ended my chapter for the touring with NKOTB, but 2009 is not over yet. We still have a Komen Race for the Cure run we have to finish in October. Who knows who we may bump into that day?
