20 Years and 3 Thousand Miles Away

I have to say I am a lucky lady.

How is it that after 20 years and 3 thousand miles away I am still able to stay in contact and see my childhood friends. I have to say this is pretty cool.

When I first moved to the States, I'd write and send them letters, talk on the phone every so often. Well, now we have Facebook and WhatsApp so the distance just gets smaller every time!

Luckily, Gaby moved to Miami a year after I did. We went to the same middle school so we got to hang out a lot. A few years later, Marysol went to college in Miami while living with her sister. Unfortunately, I went away to college, so I didn't see her as often as I would've wanted to. But in between Micaela and Claudia would always come to visit.  To top it off, Claudia moved to Miami about 2 years ago, so although now we are all older and have more responsibilities, we love getting together at the drop of a hat!

This week I got a surprise phone call from Claudia, telling me to drop everything because Micaela was visiting and we would be getting together tomorrow!

Tomorrow!? Well...OF COURSE!

Fast forward, heavy thunderstorm and a deluge falling on top of Gaby and I....and off we go to meet the crew in South Beach. No, we didn't go clubbing, some of us have children, a job, and a 1 hour car ride to get home. But we did share some drinks and a Frrrrozen Hot Chocolate :)

Did I mentioned Micaela brought her little sister Emilia who I had not seen since she was crawling and in diapers? MAN, I felt old!

Have you moved away from your hometown and still keep in touch with old friends?
